Frankie Chan Sensei's journey into the world of Aikido began in 1990 when he commenced his training with the Ki-Society dojo in Singapore. Koretoshi Maruyama Sensei was then the President / Chief Instructor of Ki-Society HQ Japan at that time. Although Maruyama Sensei later resigned from the Ki-Society in 1991 to undergo a 10-year retreat in a temple, he had already left an impression on Frankie Chan, who continued with his training in Ki-Aikido.
Frankie Sensei was awarded his Shodan in 1998 and took on teaching duties at the Ki-Society dojo until he left the organisation in October 2000. Subsequently, Frankie Sensei continued his Aikido training with a small group of fellow Aikidokas in a private location.
In early 2002, Frankie Sensei
was informed of Maruyama Sensei's return from the
temple and with the assistance of Michael Williams
Sensei, he and his group of Aikidokas became part
of Aikido Yuishinkai. In September 2002, Frankie Sensei
was given permission by Maruyama Sensei to start an
Aikido Yuishinkai branch in Singapore under the supervision
and mentorship of Michael Williams Sensei. Frankie
Sensei was appointed as Head Dojo Instructor of Aikido
Yuishinkai Singapore.
In June 2004, Frankie Sensei was promoted to Chief Instructor of Aikido Yuishinkai Singapore.
